NAMSO

The NATO Maintenance and Supply Organization (NAMSO) is a NATO Procurement, Logistics or Service Organization (NPLSO) established by the North Atlantic Council (NAC) in 1958 by approving the NAMSO Charter. NAMSO comprises the legislative entity, the Board of Directors (BOD), and NAMSA, the executive agency. The NAC has granted organizational, administrative and financial independence to NAMSO. Only the NAC can amend, dissolve or revoke the NAMSO Charter.

NAMSO's mission is to maximise the effectiveness of logistic support provided to NATO Armed Forces and to minimise the cost to NATO nations, individually and collectively.

NAMSO and NAMSA have formal arrangements with several NATO bodies, such as:

  • Agreements with the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers in Europe (SHAPE - website) for providing logistics support and services for NATO common-funded systems, such as Communication and Information Systems, Air Defence (Ground) Systems, Satellite Communications and the NATO E-3A Airborne Early Warning and Control System (AWACS - website).

  • An agreement with the NATO Communication and Information Systems (CIS) Services Agency (NCSA) and the NATO Consultation, Command and Control Agency (NC3A - website) defining the roles and responsibilities of each of the three Agencies in the full life cycle support of communications and information systems used by NATO or NATO nations.

  • A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with NATO’s Allied Committee 135 (AC/135 - website) – Group of National Directors on Codification – for performing codification support services for the users of the NATO Codification System (NCS). Under this MOU, NAMSA operates the NCS on behalf of all NATO Countries and provides secretarial support to the Committee.

  • An agreement with the NATO Airborne Early Warning and Control Programme Management Organization (NAPMO - website) and SHAPE specifying the responsibilities in providing depot level maintenance (DLM) support for the airborne portion of NATO AWACS.

  • An agreement with the NATO Helicopter Management Agency (NAHEMA) for the provision of in-service logistics support for the NH90 helicopter.

  • An agreement with NATO Airlift Management Agency (NAMA - website) for the provision of administrative management and logistics support to NAMA.

NAMSA

The NATO Maintenance and Supply Agency (NAMSA) is the executive arm of NAMSO. Both NAMSO and NAMSA participate in NATO’s Logistics Committee (LC), the principal committee for consumer logistics. NAMSA actively participates in most of the groups established under the LC. NAMSO and NAMSA also contribute regularly to the work of the Conference of National Armaments Directors (CNAD) and its sub groups.
